John Paul II Academy in Carencro was recently named to the honorable mention list in a national ranking of the country’s top Catholic high schools.

The Catholic High School Honor Roll is released as a project of the Acton Institute, an international research and educational nonprofit group.

The top 50 secondary Catholic schools in the country are chosen based on academic excellence, Catholic identity and civic education and the consultation of an advisory board of Catholic college presidents and scholars.

This year, John Paul II Academy, along with St. Michael the Archangel in Baton Rouge, were both named to the honorable mention list in the “Catholic identity” category of the rankings.

John Paul II Academy is a kindergarten through 12th-grade school independent of the Diocese of Lafayette and was created in 2007 by a group of lay people.

This academic year, a total of 167 students are enrolled, and high school enrollment is 31 students.
