Wednesday last day to register

The Lafayette Parish Registrar of Voters Office has announced that Wednesday is the last day to register for the upcoming July 19 election day.

The election ballot for the parish that day will include four property tax renewal propositions.

Two are parishwide propositions — renewal of a 1.61-mill library tax and a 1.17-mill juvenile detention tax.

The other two propositions will be for voters in the city of Lafayette only — renewal of a 1.29-mill street, road and alley tax and a 1.92–mill recreation tax.

Early voting for the tax renewal election will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 5-12 at the Lafayette Parish government building at 1010 Lafayette St.

Lafayette cleanup set
The Lafayette City Parish Government’s Neighborhood Counseling Services office is holding a neighborhood cleanup Saturday.

The cleanup will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Truman, Lillian Heights and Alice Boucher neighborhoods.

Residents in those areas are asked to place all debris and filled trash bags curbside by Friday.

All appliances must be placed at curbside by Thursday.

For information, call (337) 291-5450.

Help for nonprofit
The Junior League of Lafayette is calling on nonprofit organizations in the area to apply for the league’s “Opportunity Knocks” program.

Through the “Opportunity Knocks Community Service Program,” the league is offering staffing and limited funding for a short-term project.

Applications should be submitted by noon July 7.
