The Performing Arts Society of Acadiana is kicking off its annual musical instrument recycling program through the end of the month.
The “Play It Again Lafayette” drive involves recycling used clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, flutes and other instruments to give to public school students whose families cannot afford instruments.
PASA has been operating the program since 2004, and organizers say the demand and number of students have increased each year.
Student enrollment in area band programs doubled in the current school year as compared to the previous year.
People can support Play It Again Lafayette by donating instruments or money.

Saplings available
The Bayou Vermilion District still has tree saplings available to give away.
The district, with the help of Trees Acadiana and local Boy Scouts, has given away more than 700 trees since February.
With summer coming on, the district has about 150 saplings left to give away.
Varieties available include willow oak, cherry bark oak, mayhaw, white oak and Nuttall oak.
The district recommends that any saplings taken at this time of year not be placed in the ground, but put in pots and watered until next fall.
For more information call (337) 769-7283.
