McKneely: Call police to report salespeople

Authorities are advising residents to call them if they encounter people peddling magazines for Syn Inc., a police spokesman said Monday.

Investigators have received numerous complaints about the salespeople, who are going door to door and trying to sell magazines for a discount, Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

Syn Inc. does not have a permit with the city-parish to make such solicitations, McKneely said. As a result, the company does not have permission to sell items in the Baton Rouge area, he added.

Police have arrested one salesperson for allegedly stealing a check from someone’s home, McKneely said. Details about the arrest were not available Monday.

Four arrested on counts of DWI

Authorities arrested at least four people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 3 p.m. Sunday and 3 p.m. Monday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

  • Richard Gendron, 42, 9483 Kevel Drive, fourth-offense DWI, seat belt violation and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Leonardo Chambers, 28, 3751 Fairwoods Drive, first-offense DWI, failure to signal/improper turn, driving left of center, driver’s license suspended/revoked, possession of marijuana, flee to elude police and failure to obey stop sign/yield sign.
  • Sean Simone, 20, 4500 Burbank Drive, first-offense DWI, disobeying red light and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Ashley Argrave, 25, 4725 Woodlyn Drive, first-offense DWI and failure to maintain control.
