Suspect indicted in hit-run
GONZALES — The Ascension Parish grand jury has indicted a Prairieville woman on single counts of vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run in the death of a Geismar woman last summer, prosecutors said Thursday.
Nikki R. Estilette, 27, hit Joan Scott, 38, with her Chevy Camaro while Scott was walking on the shoulder of La. 73 about 10 p.m. July 26, parish sheriff’s deputies have said.
Scott died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales.
Estilette was also originally arrested on a charge of DWI, deputies have said.
The grand jury presented the true bill Monday at Ascension Parish Courthouse Annex in Gonzales, prosecutors with the 23rd Judicial District said in a statement Thursday.
The grand jury also did not find sufficient evidence to bring a charge of negligent homicide against a Baton Rouge man earlier this week, prosecutors said. State Police arrested Anthony Jackson, 47, 15120 Jester Ave., Baton Rouge, after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in September.
Jackson’s pickup struck a Honda Accord being driven by Denise M. Dumas, 25, about 2 a.m. Sept. 26. The grand jury presented the no true bill Monday, prosecutors said.
