Grand jury indicts two in Medicaid fraud case
Two former officials of a New Roads nursing home are accused of defrauding the Medicaid program.
Casey Kennedy, former administrator of Pointe Coupee Healthcare, and Jacqueline Mougeot, the facility’s former nursing director, were indicted Wednesday by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury.
Kennedy, 44, of Opelousas, and Mougeot, 47, of Jarreau, are charged with one count each of Medicaid fraud and filing or maintaining false public records.
Jennifer Roche, a spokeswoman for the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, said Thursday that Kennedy and Mougeot allegedly submitted time for hours not actually worked.
The indictments say the alleged activity occurred between September 2007 and April 2008.
Roche said the investigation began when the office received a complaint about staffing hours at Pointe Coupee Healthcare.
With the help and full cooperation of Plantation Management Corp., the parent company, the Attorney General’s Office was able to complete a timely investigation, she added.
The case is in East Baton Rouge Parish because this is where Medicaid payments are issued, Roche noted.
The case has been assigned to state District Judge Trudy White.
