Two teens shot outside rap show
NEW ROADS — A man believed to be a member of a rapper’s entourage fired a gun into a crowd outside the Woodmen of the World Hall early Wednesday, wounding two young girls, Pointe Coupee Sheriff Beauregard “Bud” Torres said.
A 13-year-old New Roads girl was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge after a bullet entered her back and became lodged in her chest, Torres said.
The shooting victim underwent two operations since she was wounded and was listed Wednesday in “guarded but stable condition,” the sheriff said.
Another girl of a similar age, and also from New Roads, was treated and released from Pointe Coupee General Hospital after a bullet grazed her arm, Torres said.
The shooting took place around midnight after an argument between a group from New Orleans and a group from New Roads escalated into a fight outside the venue on the outskirts of the city, Torres said.
The two groups were attending a show put on by a New Orleans rapper who goes by the moniker Flame, or a variation of that name, the sheriff said.
Outside the venue, a member of the rapper’s entourage pulled out a gun and fired several rounds into a crowd of people, Torres said.
Investigators have identified a young male believed to be from New Orleans as a person of interest in the investigation and expect to make an arrest in the near future, Torres said.
