Deputy kills Amite man during standoff

A deputy killed an Amite man during a struggle and a standoff, the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.

David Johnson, 49, of 26432 East Snowcreek Road in Amite, was armed with a shotgun when he was shot in front of his home where deputies had responded to a domestic case Sunday night, said Dawn Panepinto, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Johnson died in a hospital Monday morning, she said.

Additional details are being witheld pending the outcome of the investigation.
