2 robbed at gunpoint

LAFAYETTE — Two people were robbed at gunpoint early Thursday on Jefferson Street, according to a Police Department news release.

Police said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. as the victims, a 24-year-old Port Barre man and a 26-year-old Lafayette woman, were standing behind a business in the 400 block of Jefferson Street.

Two men approached the couple and demanded their valuables, the release stated.

No descriptions were offered of the two robbers. They were last seen fleeing afoot toward East Congress Street.

Neither victim was injured in the robbery.

Suspect arrested, 1 sought in burglary
LAFAYETTE — Police arrested a Lafayette man and searched for an accomplice in the aggravated burglary of a residence early Thursday.

The burglary occurred at a residence in the 800 block of Fairmont Lane about midnight Thursday.

Police reported in a news release that two armed, masked men kicked in the front door of the home and demanded money. The intruders stole an undisclosed amount of cash and the victim’s vehicle.

A police officer on foot patrol in the 100 block of East Gilman arrested one man believed to have been involved in the burglary.

Officers recovered money, a pistol and clothing allegedly used in the crime, the release stated.

Christopher Dugas, 33, was arrested on one count each of aggravated burglary, unauthorized use of an automobile and being a felon in possession of a handgun, according to the release.

Police continued searching for the second man implicated in the crime, and the vehicle used, a white four-door 2007 Chevrolet Impala with a Georgia license plate.
