Picardy Avenue extension completed
Construction has been completed on a new, half-mile stretch of Picardy Avenue that’s part of the city-parish’s Green Light Plan.
The $2.4 million project was the construction of a two-lane concrete road that connects, the existing stretch of Picardy Avenue that ends at Mancuso Lane to the existing portion of Picardy Avenue that is behind Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet campus, city-parish Director of Public Works Pete Newkirk said.
The project also includes 4-foot sidewalks on both sides of the new portion of road and roadway lighting, Newkirk said.
John Snow, spokesman for The Green Light Plan, said the road construction was completed this week, a month earlier than the scheduled date, Dec. 18.
Mayor-President Kip Holden is scheduled to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, to celebrate the completion of the new portion of road.
The ceremony will be held on Picardy Avenue next to the Baton Rouge General Medical Center, Snow said.
