Two men held in burglaries

Two Ascension Parish men were arrested on multiple counts of burglary and theft in a series of vehicle burglaries in the River Highlands subdivision, deputies in Livingston and Ascension parishes reported Friday.

Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies were able to tie the men to the August burglaries near St. Amant after seven checks from a checkbook stolen from one of the burglarized cars turned up in area stores, Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said.

The men took cash, global positioning system devices, cell phones, jewelry and iPods from the vehicles in the subdivision near the Amite River Diversion Canal.

The boundary line between Ascension and Livingston parishes meanders in the area, Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies said.

Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies identified Carl J. Manning, 32, 37320 White Road, Prairieville, as the man who cashed the checks and arrested him Nov. 8 on three counts of simple burglary, seven counts of forgery and a single felony theft count, deputies said.

Deputies said they then learned Robert Falcon Jr., 33, 22203 Falcon Road, Maurepas, was involved in the burglaries. He was arrested earlier this week on three counts of simple burglary and a single felony theft count, deputies said.

Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested and booked Falcon and Manning each with six counts of simple burglary Tuesday, deputies said.

Falcon remained in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Friday on a $180,000 bond. Manning remained in the detention center Friday on a $90,000 bond, deputies said.

Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies also placed holds on both men.
