John Allen Muhammad's son holds press conference
The oldest son of executed sniper John Allen Muhammad said today he loves his father, does not judge him and should not be judged by his father’s actions.
“We can’t go back. Everywhere I go I will be looked upon as the son of the DC sniper,’’ Lindbergh Allen Williams, accompanied by an aunt and uncle, told reporters outside the Governmental Building.
“If you choose to judge me that way, so be it,’’ the 27-year-old Williams, who lives in Baton Rouge, added. “I am my own man.’’
Muhammad, 48, was born in New Orleans but was reared as John Allen Williams in a wood-frame house on Avenue A in Baton Rouge.
Lindbergh Williams, who said his father was not in his life, spent time with his father Tuesday — the day he was executed in Virginia — reconnecting.
“Pretty much it was catching up on old times. He told us he loved us,’’ Williams said. “He told me how much he missed me.’’
Williams and Sheron Norman, Lindbergh’s aunt and Muhammad’s former sister-in-law, said Muhammad will be buried Tuesday in Baton Rouge. They did not elaborate.
Muhammad and his accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, remain under indictment in the murder and robbery of Florida Boulevard beauty shop manager Hong Im Ballenger on Sept. 23, 2002, but prosecutors have said those charges likely will be dismissed.
Malvo pleaded guilty and is serving a life prison term in the October 2002 Virginia slaying in which Muhammad was convicted, sentenced to die and executed.
