A raccoon that climbed into a downtown Baton Rouge substation early this morning caused a power outage for 1,200 Entergy customers, said Entergy Gulf States Regional Manger Jeff Holeman.

The power went out just before 3:30 a.m. and was back up at 5 a.m., he said.

The customers affected by the outage were residents and businesses on parts of Government Street and the general area near Interstate 10 and Florida Boulevard, Holeman said.

The raccoon got into the Entergy substation on River Road downtown.

Holeman said the raccoon did not survive.
