A man hit by a car while crossing North Street in Baton Rouge may have been drunk when the accident happened, according to police.

Investigators say it appears 45-year-old Johnny Kelly and 4-year-old Andre Williams were hit by a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle Thursday night, and it's possible another vehicle may have been involved.

Williams died but Kelly is in the hospital where he's expected to recover.

The driver of the Beetle told investigators at the scene he never saw Kelly and Williams before he hit them.  He is not charged.

Police say it appears another vehicle hit Kelly and Williams after the initial impact.  The driver stopped near the scene but was never questioned by investigators.

Police are asking that driver to come forward so they can obtain a statement.

A boy was killed and a man injured Thursday when they were hit by at least one vehicle while trying to cross North Street.

The accident occurred at 5:40 p.m. in the 3000 block of North Street near North 30th and Gebelin streets.

Police found Andre Williams, 4, and Johnny Kelly, whose age was not available, lying in the street, said Capt. Rodney Adams, a police spokesman.
