Cow carcass incident resolved
PRAIRIEVILLE — The owner of an ill cow shot and butchered the animal and was on his way to dump the remaining carcass Tuesday morning when it fell off his vehicle along Airline Highway, Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies said.
Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said Tuesday the owner was trying to return to the site with equipment to pick the carcass back up and haul it away.
But Ascension Parish Public Works employees found it first alongside a busy section of Airline Highway around 8 a.m. Tuesday, parish officials said.
Ronnie Fairchild, parish Department of Public Works director, said workers on a trash detail spotted the carcass just south of Himmel’s Hardware and Cabinets, Inc. along the southbound side of the highway.
Parish workers disposed of the carcass and reported the discovery to sheriff’s deputies as parish officials suspected the animal may be been dumped.
Subsequent investigation by deputies turned up the owner’s story and Bacala said investigators have closed the incident.
“The owner killed it, and the owner butchered it,” Bacala said.
