6,362 voters cast early ballots
Registrar of Voters Elain Lamb’s office recorded 6,362 early ballots cast for the Nov. 14 election, making it a “pretty good turnout,” she said .
Voters were given a week to cast their ballots through Saturday.
The main issue facing East Baton Rouge voters is the 30-year, $901 million bond issue that would pay for projects including a new parish prison, juvenile services facility, public safety complex, drainage improvement, synchronization of traffic lights and the Alive Riverfront Park.
If passed, the tax would include a one-half cent sales tax and a 9.9-mil property tax.
Lamb said 403 votes were submitted through the mail and the remainder were cast in person at one of the four polling places made available from Oct. 31 through Nov. 7.
She said interest in the tax election fueled a lot of participation from among early voters.
