Architects board backs bond issue
The Baton Rouge board of directors of the American Institute of Architects has endorsed the $901 million bond proposal that goes before voters Saturday.
The AIA board issued a statement saying while the bond issue would seem an obvious benefit to architects, the more important benefits are to the parish, addressing long-overlooked, critical needs and offering significant economic development potential for the parish.
The plans include building new facilities — replacements for Parish Prison and the juvenile detention center and new parking garages and a public safety complex — as well as consolidation of city-parish government offices, drainage system improvements, traffic light synchronization and downtown economic development projects such as the Alive project.
Alive is an education, research and entertainment venue, with an aquarium, outdoor amphitheater and scientific research facilities run by LSU.
