SU Human Jukebox vies for Honda honor
Southern University’s Human Jukebox Marching Band will participate as one of the eight finalists in the Honda Battle of the Bands on Jan. 30, the company announced today.
Known as the Super Bowl for bands from historically black colleges and universities, the Georgia Dome event in Atlanta typically draws 60,000 fans and gives bands 12-minute performances to showcase their skills.
It’s the first time Southern has participated in the final battle after emerging from an invitational showcase of 45 bands, Honda said in a news release.
Bands will range from the 120-member Clark Atlanta University band to the 400-member Florida A&M University band.
Other schools with bands in the event will be Albany State, North Carolina Central, Prairie View A&M, Tuskegee and Virginia State.
