Ferry service opens at La. 10 crossing
ST. FRANCISVILLE — The state Department of Transportation and Development resumed ferry service on the Mississippi River between St. Francisville and New Roads on Monday afternoon, a day later than expected.
Debris in the swollen river last week damaged the propeller of the 35-car ferry boat that normally operates on the La. 10 crossing, and DOTD moved a 17-car vessel to the landing on Sunday as scheduled, the department said in a news release.
Crews noticed a valve leak in the engine room of the smaller boat on Sunday, which required additional repair work, the news release says.
Vehicle restrictions for the 17-car ferries are no trailers, no more than two axles and no more than six wheels. Large trucks and trailers should use the Interstate 10 Mississippi River Bridge or U.S. 190 Mississippi River Bridge.
The operating hours for the New Roads/St. Francisville ferry are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
