The man walked into the store at 5642 Government St. at 9:43 p.m. demanding money, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.

The man grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and ran off, McKneely said.

No one was injured.

The robber was described as a black man, 6-feet 3-inches and between 200 and 210 pounds, McKneely said. The robber was wearing black shoes, a black hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, a black bandana and a black and red baseball cap.

Wandering toddler leads to two arrests

The rescue of a 2-year-old boy in a busy intersection led to the Friday arrest of his parents, court records show.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to Hillmont Avenue and Springlake Drive at 9:30 a.m. in reference to a young boy who was wandering the area, an affidavit of probable cause said.

Several people rescued the toddler from almost being hit by an oncoming vehicle, the affidavit said.

Deputies found the boy’s parents asleep inside their home at 10312 Hillmont Ave., the affidavit said. Deputies also found illegal drugs inside the home.

Nicholas J. Aylor and Rachael Aylor, both 26, were booked into Parish Prison on one count each of cruelty to juveniles, theft, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule II drugs, distribution and manufacturing Schedule II drugs, and distribution and manufacturing Schedule I drugs.
