Police motorcycle skills competition at Cabela's Friday, Saturday
The 11th Annual Gulf Coast Police Motorcycle Skills Championship is being held at Cabela’s Outdoor World in Gonzales with events on Friday (today) and Saturday, Nov. 6-7.
This event brings motorcycle patrol officers from around the country together to train with one another and compete for the title of top rider at this charity event.
Sponsored by the Dream Day Foundation, it is jointly hosted by the Louisiana State Police, Baton Rouge Police Department, LSU Police Department, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
This year, nearly 150 police officers from around the State of Louisiana as well as agencies such as Ft. Lauderdale police department, Memphis police department, Wyoming police departments, Dallas police department, Georgia State Highway Patrol, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and many other agencies will all be competing against one another in an exhibition of their motorcycle riding skills.
Officers are required to navigate through a series of obstacle courses to determine speed, precision, and safety. The courses are designed to push the limits of each officer’s riding ability. The training these officers received during this event helps to improve their riding skills and personal safety while conducting daily motorcycle patrols in their home towns.
Each year, this event raises over $30,000 for St. Jude’s Hospital through the Dream Day Foundation. Since its inception 12 years ago, the motorcycle patrol officers have raised over $176,000 for St. Jude.
The public and media are encouraged to attend this event.
