Taxpayers in La. sought for refunds
The Internal Revenue Service is trying to get refund checks totaling more than $1.6 million — an average $1,080 apiece — to nearly 1,500 Louisianans whose checks were returned to the IRS by the U.S. Postal Service because of mailing address errors.
Refunds are due to 221 taxpayers in East Baton Rouge Parish, totaling $383,374, an average of $1,735 apiece.
Other area parishes with significant amounts are Ascension, 27 taxpayers totaling $48,174; Livingston, 35 taxpayers totaling $20,318; West Baton Rouge, 12 taxpayers totaling $28,328; and East Feliciana, 19 taxpayers totaling $47,204.
Significant totals elsewhere in south Louisiana are Lafayette Parish, 96 taxpayers totaling $81,651; Orleans, 161 taxpayers totaling $220,520; Jefferson, 157 taxpayers totaling $155,101; St. Tammany, 54 taxpayers totaling $39,158; and Tangipahoa, 47 taxpayers totaling $61,615.
