Area Veterans Day events
SUNDAY
- Flag ceremonies by the Alexander Sterling Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in East Feliciana Parish cemeteries: 9 a.m., Dawson Cemetery; and 3 p.m., Town of Jackson Cemetery, Clinton Masonic Cemetery and Redwood Cemetery, La. 412, Slaughter.
- 1 p.m.: “Veterans On Parade,” downtown Port Allen. (225) 344-2920.
- 2 p.m.: Veterans Day Ceremonies, Baker City Hall Park and Veterans Plaza, 3325 Groom Road, Baker.
TUESDAY
- 10:30 a.m.: Veterans Day parade by Head Start students and other children. Courthouse Square in Clinton.
- 11 a.m.: Program at the Louisiana War Veterans Home, 4739 La. 10, Jackson.
WEDNESDAY
- 7:30 a.m.: Veterans Day Flag Raising Ceremony, Bank of Zachary building, 4743 Main St., Zachary, with Zachary High School music group, Junior ROTC cadets and veterans participating.
- 8:20 a.m.: In Donaldsonville, Ascension Catholic Elementary School is saluting veterans with a Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, followed by a program at the school. (225) 473-8540, Ext 250.
- 9 a.m.: Veterans Day program, West Feliciana High School Stadium.
- 9 a.m.: Veterans Day program, Scotlandville Magnet High School, 9870 Scotland Ave. The ceremony will feature the school’s JROTC Battalion, a cadet recognition ceremony and a drill team performance. A veteran will be the featured speaker. (225) 775-5187.
- 11 a.m.: Veterans Day program, Veterans Memorial Park on South Irma Boulevard in Gonzales. Retired U.S. Army 1st Sgt Herman Deculas, a Vietnam War veteran, is set as the guest speaker and a choir made up of student from East Ascension, Dutchtown and St. Amant high schools will sing patriotic music. Food will be served.
- Noon: Veterans Day reception, Brusly Town Hall, Brusly.
- 3 p.m.: Iberville Salute to Veterans, Iberville Veterans Memorial, White Castle. (225) 929-9661.
