BR man, 22, sentenced in rapes
A 22-year-old Baton Rouge man was sentenced to 36 years in prison Tuesday for a May 2005 crime spree that included the rapes of two 20-year-old women during separate home-invasion armed robberies.
Joshua “Pig’’ Thomas must serve the sentence without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence, state District Judge Mike Erwin ordered.
Thomas pleaded guilty Monday to two counts each of forcible rape, armed robbery and aggravated burglary.
East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III called the incidents a “nightmare’’ for the victims and said he hopes the sentence gives them some closure. He added that the victims were pleased with the sentence.
The first rape occurred May 20, 2005, when a woman returned to her apartment just off Coursey Boulevard and was approached by a man with a handgun, authorities said.
A July 2008 indictment identified the man as Thomas.
Thomas forced his way into the woman’s apartment and stayed there for several hours while he sexually assaulted her, authorities said.
The second rape took place May 23, 2005, after an LSU student had a gun put to the back of her head as she was entering her July Street apartment.
The indictment identified Thomas as the woman’s assailant.
