ZACHARY — Two meetings are set Nov. 16 for residents and business owners to participate in an assessment of the city’s strengths and weaknesses for economic development purposes.

The Louisiana Department of Economic Development recently selected Zachary and 11 other cities to participate in a six-month pilot program to help them compete locally and nationally for jobs, business development and capital investment, a release from Mayor Henry Martinez’s office says.

A 10-member steering committee will hold the 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. meetings in the meeting room of the Zachary branch library, 1900 Church St.

Residents are invited to participate by sharing their visions for the city with the panel.

The panel also developed two surveys, one for residents and one for business owners, that are meant to give city leaders a better understanding of Zachary’s environment and potential for future development.

The residents’ survey asks them to rate a number of quality-of-life factors, such as executive, moderate or low-income housing, community safety, recreational opportunities, health care and others.

The business survey asks for ratings on labor availability, wage levels, diversity of economy, traffic flow, real estate costs, overhead and financing opportunities.

Surveys are available on the city Web site at http://www.cityofzachary.org.

Completed surveys should be returned by Nov. 30.

Surveys may be mailed to City of Zachary, ATTN: Lisa Rioux, P.O. Box 310, Zachary, LA 70791, or delivered to City Hall.

For information, call (225) 654-0287.
