Teen dies after being shot on Winbourne
A 19-year-old man died Monday after being shot in the head early Sunday, police said.
Frankie Hamilton was shot at 5:45 a.m. Sunday at his 5136 Winbourne Ave. home, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
Hamilton later died at a local hospital where he was being treated for his wounds, McKneely said.
Investigators believe Hamilton was shot by a 16-year-old boy with whom he was arguing, McKneely said. The argument escalated into a fight and then a shooting, McKneely said.
Police arrested the 16-year-old and placed him into juvenile detention on one count each of second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
Man killed in wreck on Airline Highway
A 28-year-old Baton Rouge man was killed Sunday when his 2004 BMW slammed into a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe on Airline Highway, police said.
Kevin Carr, 2150 73rd Ave., was traveling north on Airline Highway and approaching the intersection of South Choctaw Drive at 10:25 p.m. when the collision occurred, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
The driver of the Tahoe was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition, McKneely said. Carr died at the scene, McKneely said.
Detectives believe speed could have been a factor in the accident but are still investigating, McKneely said.
