Woman dies after van collides head-on with Jeep on U.S. 190
A Baton Rouge woman was killed Saturday night in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 190 west of La. 1024 in Livingston Parish when the van she was driving was hit head-on by a sport utility vehicle, State Police said in a news release.
Annie V. Clononger, 62, was driving a 1998 Ford van when she was hit head-on by a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 21-year-old Justin Cutrer, of Walker, Troop A spokesman Russell Graham III said.
Cutrer was traveling east on U.S. 190 when he crossed the center line just before hitting the van, Graham said.
After the impact of the crash, the van rotated counter-clockwise, came to a rest in the east travel lane facing north, and was hit on the driver’s side by a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, Graham said.
The Chevrolet, driven by 34-year-old Louis Edwards, of Denham Springs, was traveling west on U.S. 190 behind the van before the crash.
Edwards, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries as result of the crash, Graham said.
Clononger was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, Graham said. Two passengers in Clononger’s van, 65-year-old Wendy Bethel and 59-year-old Wanda Beckwith, were wearing seat belts and suffered mild to moderate injuries, Graham said.
Cutrer was wearing a seat belt but suffered serious injuries and was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Graham said.
He was booked with negligent homicide, two counts of negligent injury and driving left of center, Graham said.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash but blood samples were taken from all three drivers and sent to the State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis, Graham said.
