Gonzales bank targeted in merger bid
United Community Bank of Gonzales, which has about $129 million in deposits, is the subject of a merger bid by a larger bank based in Raceland.
Community Bancorp of Louisiana Inc., the holding bank for Raceland-based Community Bank, is seeking permission from the Federal Reserve’s Atlanta regional office to acquire all the shares of the Gonzales bank holding company, United Community Bancshares Inc.
According to the FDIC’s latest market share report on June 30, Community Bank operated nine offices — six in Lafourche Parish and one each in Houma, LaPlace and Napoleonville — and had $354 million in deposits, making it about three times the size of the Gonzales bank. United Community Bank operates six offices, five of them in Gonzales and one on Coursey Boulevard in Baton Rouge.
The Fed’s Atlanta office is taking public comments through Nov. 18, after which a decision on the merger will be issued.
