CROWLEY — The proposed hiring of Drew Miller as a consultant for the LeGros Airport near Crowley was delayed indefinitely Tuesday night by the Acadia Parish Police Jury.

Parish President Jay Credeur said the parish needs to examine its budget before hiring an airport manager.

Credeur said Miller approached the parish about supervising airport operations.

Vice-president Cade Benoit said future negotiations should include an hourly rate.

Credeur gave not details of Miller’s proposal. Miller did not speak at the meeting.

Resident Jeff John told jurors he prefers they hire someone from Acadia. Miller lives in Eunice and performs a similar function for the Eunice Municipal Airport, which is located in Acadia. But Eunice is chiefly located in St. Landry Parish.

In another matter concerning the airport, the jury voted to give the Airport Committee the authority to create an priority list for future projects.

Benoit said the list will contain projects such as flood prevention, repairing runway joints, creating new taxiways and possibly developing a fueling system and perimeter fencing.

The jury also voted Tuesday to proceed with a request by juror Kermit Richard to clean a portion of Bayou Blanc from La. 13 to Roller Road.

Richard said people who live along one portion of the bayou in the district he represents, have complained of flooding because of undergrowth and sunken trees.

The jury also voted to create a parish sales tax exemption on crawfish bait by processors and farmers.

Representatives from several businesses bait said farmers have been going to other parishes that offer tax exemptions on bait purchases.
