LSU Police arrest four in counterfeit ticket case
LSU Police arrested four people from Atlanta on Saturday and charged them with “theft by fraud” in the selling of counterfeit tickets to the Tigers’ football game against the University of Florida.
Several people filed reports Saturday that tickets they had purchased from people on campus would not scan when they tried to get into the stadium, said Detective Jason Bettencourtt, of LSU Police.
The ticket buyers described the people who sold them the tickets and officers began looking for the people selling the tickets in several areas throughout campus, he said.
All of the suspects arrested in connection with the alleged counterfeit ticket sales were from the Atlanta area, but it is not clear if all or some of the suspects were working together, he said.
“(They were) all older males not affiliated with LSU,” Bettencourtt said.
The people arrested and charged with theft by fraud were Stevie Dixon, 49; Lorenzo York, 29; Jamall Lanes, 28; and Demonta Holloway, 29.
Bettencourtt said they are still looking for the source of the fake tickets that were good enough to fool people.
Someone who knew what to look for in the tickets, however, could tell that these tickets were fake. But it wouldn’t be immediately obvious to a fan, he said.
“They look real enough to pass,” he said.
There were a few differences in security marks such as holograms and watermarks, he said.
The fake tickets were sold for anywhere between $50 and $100, he said.
