DONALDSONVILLE — Ascension Parish Councilman Oliver Joseph plans to meet with residents at 6 p.m. today to discuss a proposed ballot proposition that would impose parcel fees to pay utility costs for a west bank road lighting district, he said.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in Donaldsonville City Hall, 609 Railroad Ave., Donaldsonville, the councilman said in a statement this week.

Another meeting on the same topic is planned for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the same location.

Ascension Parish Road Lighting District No. 4 is proposing $25 parcel fees on residential properties and $100 parcel fees on commercial properties for the next 10 years. Voters in the district will consider the fee proposition in an election Oct. 17.

The district, which already has a 5-mill property tax, serves the Smoke Bend and Port Barrow areas and includes part of Donaldsonville.

The fees would raise $20,000 annually and help cover electrical costs not now covered by millage revenue, Joseph has said.
