The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduled to complete a boat launch near Charenton by the end of January.

The project, in conjunction with St. Mary Parish and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Atchafalaya Basin Program, features a four-lane boat ramp, canoe launching ramp, floating courtesy dock, concrete landing area, restroom facilities and a crushed stone parking area that can accommodate vehicles with trailers.

The 60-foot-wide by 100-foot- long ramp will be accessible to public lands such as the Attakapas Wildlife Management Area, state-owned land and water bottoms, and the Army Corps’ fee lands in the Shatter’s Bayou Area.

The 22-acre site is located inside the West Atchafalaya Basin protection levee, about four miles east of Charenton and is accessible from La. 87 via the Martin-Ridge Road.

The project has had construction delays from two high-river water seasons and rain.
