ULM produces ‘brain drain’ documentary
The plight of Louisiana college graduates — whether they will stay at home or seek careers out of state — takes center stage in a new documentary by the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
“Stay Brady Stay” zeroes in on the individual decision of Brady Middleton, a recent ULM graduate from Mangham, and the perceived dilemma he and other college graduates in the state face.
ULM Professor John Sutherlin produced the 26-minute documentary using a service-learning grant from the University of Louisiana System and employing students in the school’s Social Science Research Lab. Other college cities are capturing the urgency of meeting the expectations of graduates, he said.
“Fort Collins, where Colorado State University is located, is an excellent example of a college town that grasps the vital relationship between economic growth and cultural development,” Sutherlin said in a news release. A trailer of the film, scheduled to appear in a San Francisco film festival this month, is available at the lab’s www.ulm.edu/ssrl Web site.
