Tickfaw man dies in crash Thursday
AMITE — A Tickfaw man was killed Thursday night when his pickup truck crashed into a utility pole on Old U.S. 51 in Amite, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.
Roberto M. Barrera, 33, 49463 La. 1065, Tickfaw, was traveling south on Old U.S. 51 near Holden Circle around 9:45 p.m. when his truck left the roadway, a statement from the Sheriff’s Office says.
When Barrera overcorrected, his truck left the highway again and entered a ditch, the statement says. His truck continued for several more feet before striking the utility pole, the statement says.
The impact crushed the roof of the truck, killing Barrera, the statement says. Barrera was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.
