PRAIRIEVILLE — Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies are investigating theft and vandalism at Galvez Middle School that apparently occurred over the weekend, the Sheriff’s Office said today.

School officials found two computers were missing from two classrooms and discovered that two fire extinguishers were sprayed in two other classrooms when they opened the buildings this morning, Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said.

School system spokesman Johnnie Balfantz said a swastika and the words “white power” and “penis” were written in permanent marker on a dry erase board in at least one classroom.

Bacala said items also appeared to have been moved in a fifth classroom inside the school, which holds fifth- to eighth-graders.

Students had to be moved in four classrooms that had to be cleaned, Balfantz said.

The person or persons involved in the incident apparently entered the rooms through the windows, school system and law enforcement officials said.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-4636 or Crimestoppers at (225) 344-7867.
