WBR sheriff sues Addis police chief
PORT ALLEN — West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Mike Cazes filed a lawsuit this morning accusing Addis Police Chief Ricky Anderson of defamation, libel and slander.
The lawsuit stems from recent allegations by Anderson that Cazes used his authority as sheriff to give the son of a West Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputy special treatment after the deputy’s son was arrested on a marijuana possession count.
Anderson also accused sheriff’s deputies of improperly locking two Addis police officers in a room at the jail until the officers filled out paperwork the way the deputies wanted them to. Anderson has said the deputies were acting on Cazes’ orders.
Cazes has denied any wrongdoing.
In the lawsuit, Cazes’ attorney, Jill Craft writes, “The allegations of defendant Anderson are without any basis in fact, law, reality or otherwise.”
The sheriff sued as a way to stand up for his deputies and to let Anderson know there are consequences for “Anderson’s irresponsible and malicious behavior,” Craft said.
