Ascension sex case sentencing set for Dec. 15
GONZALES — A state district court judge is slated to sentence a Gonzales man Dec. 15 after a unanimous six-person jury found him guilty earlier this week of sexual battery against a 14-year-old girl, Ascension Parish prosecutors said Thursday.
William Fendt, 39, faces up to 10 years in prison with no option of probation or parole, said prosecutor Joni Buquoi, assistant district attorney with the 23rd Judicial District.
The district encompasses Ascension, St. James and Assumption parishes.
Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested Fendt on Nov. 14 on indecent behavior with a juvenile and sexual battery charges stemming from an incident that day, prosecutors said.
But Buquoi said prosecutors could only bring one charge against him because they both arose from the same event.
Judge Thomas Kliebert Jr. presided over the one-day trial Tuesday at Ascension Parish Courthouse Annex in Gonzales, Buquoi said.
Fendt was out on bond before trial but was remanded to Ascension Parish Jail on Tuesday, Buquoi said.
Fendt can re-post bond and be released pending sentencing.
