Alabama woman, son die in wreck near Grosse Tete
GROSSE TETE — Two people died in a two-car collision Monday afternoon on Interstate 10 after their car veered from the left eastbound lane of I-10 into the path of oncoming traffic, Louisiana State Police reported.
State Police spokesman Trooper Russell Graham II said the victims were identified as Bernadette Bailey, 45, and her son, Keith West, 27, both of Huntsville, Ala.
State Police spokesman Sgt. Markus Smith said the red 2004 Ford Mustang that Bailey was driving crossed a median and was broadsided by a Cadillac sedan.
State Police said the Cadillac’s driver, Cicero Sneed Jr., 58, of Houston, and his passenger, Shirley Sneed, 60, who suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
Smith said an investigation is ongoing and it is unclear why the Mustang crossed into oncoming traffic.
All four people involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts, he said.
Alcohol is not suspected as a factor, Graham said.
Blood samples from both drivers have been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab, he said.
