Retired West Feliciana deputy drowns
ST. FRANCISVILLE — A retired West Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputy and former state trooper died Wednesday morning when his truck ran off a boat ramp into Lake Mary in neighboring Wilkinson County, Miss.
Sheriff J. Austin Daniel said his brother-in-law, James L. “Bo” Bryant Sr., 80, may have suffered a heart attack while trying to launch his fishing boat, but the Wilkinson Country coroner ruled Bryant drowned.
The truck’s transmission was in park when authorities pulled it from the water, but the vehicle went off the ramp into a deep hole, the sheriff said.
A witness to the incident attempted unsuccessfully to pull the truck from the water, Daniel said.
Bryant worked as a sheriff’s deputy from 1984 until 2007. Previously, he was a State Police captain and alcohol beverage control agent.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Wednesday.
