GONZALES — The legal review period for Ascension Parish property owners to look over the 2009 tax rolls ends Tuesday, the parish assessor said.

Total taxable assessed value in Ascension Parish has risen by about 6 percent, from $776 million in 2008 to $822 million in 2009, Assessor Renee Mire Michel said.

The parish tax rolls spell out assessed values of properties and give owners a look at what their 2009 property taxes are expected to be.

Michel said residents can review the rolls and speak with her office about any problems they might have.

Property owners have until Oct. 1 to file appeals with the Ascension Parish Board of Review, which is the Parish Council, Michel said.

She said the legal review period began Aug. 31.

Michel said this year’s projected increase, one year after the 2008 reassessment year, stems from new development and increases in the personal property category, such as business machinery and inventories.

She said some 10-year state tax exemptions for industry have begun to expire.

Residents can review tax rolls at the assessor’s offices in Gonzales and Donaldsonville between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The offices are at 828 S. Irma Blvd., Gonzales, and 300 Houmas St., Donaldsonville.

The rolls also can be searched on the Internet at the Louisiana Tax Commission Web site at http://www.latax.state.la.us/Menu_ParishTaxRolls/TaxRolls.aspx.
