N.O. man suspect in killings
HAMMOND — A suspect in Sunday’s slaying of a Baptist woman also allegedly killed one of the victims in the July 23 double homicide in Albany, a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman said Friday.
Ronald Dean “Black” Bandy Jr., 24, of New Orleans, will be booked with first-degree murder in Livingston Parish in the fatal shooting of Gregory Brumfield, 27, of Albany, on July 23, Chief Criminal Deputy Jason Ard said.
Brumfield was shot and killed by someone in a passing vehicle around 11 p.m. July 23 on the Livingston Parish side of Drake Road and about 700 feet from another drive-by homicide on the Tangipahoa Parish side earlier that day, deputies have said.
The victim on the Tangipahoa Parish side of the road was identified by investigators as Clifton Calcota, 31, of Albany.
Bandy was arrested in Slidell on Thursday in connection with the home-invasion burglary of a Baptist residence that left Grace Lamonte, 68, dead and her husband, Anthony Lamonte, 72, recovering from serious gunshot wounds, deputies have said.
Bandy was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite on counts of aggravated burglary, first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in the Baptist home-invasion case.
Ard referred further questions on whether Bandy is implicated in Calcota’s death and whether Sunday’s home-invasion burglary in Baptist is connected to the drive-by shootings to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office because Tangipahoa detectives are investigating those cases.
Phone messages left for Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, his chief deputy and spokeswoman were not immediately returned Friday evening.
When asked Thursday, Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto would not say whether the home-invasion burglary was related to the drive-by shootings on Drake Road.
In a related matter, Shelton Abron, 18, of Hammond, who had been arrested in connection with Brumfield’s death, is no longer a suspect in that case, Ard said.
Abron was released from the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Thursday, Ard said.
