2 sentenced in sex cases involving children
CLINTON — Two men entered pleas in 20th Judicial District Court this week to sexual crimes involving minors, District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla said.
Shortly before he was to go on trial Wednesday on two counts of aggravated rape, Melvin Alexander Jr., 41, who gave a Jackson post office box as his address, pleaded guilty to two amended counts of forcible rape.
District Judge William G. Carmichael sentenced Alexander to two consecutive 20-year prison terms after accepting the pleas.
An East Feliciana Parish grand jury indicted Alexander, who then lived on Billy Goat Road near Wilson, on the aggravated rape counts following his arrest in July 2006. D’Aquilla said the children Alexander is accused of raping were 6 and 7 years old at that time.
In a case heard Monday, Robert Threeton, 61, 10388 Black Road, Zachary, pleaded no contest to contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He originally was charged with sexual battery of a 15-year-old girl, but the charge was amended.
Carmichael sentenced Threeton to a suspended two-year prison term, placed him on probation for five years and ordered him to serve 100 days in the parish jail and pay a $1,000 fine.
As a condition of probation, Threeton is prohibited from being alone with any children 12 years of age or younger.
The 20th Judicial District is comprised of East Feliciana and West Feliciana parishes.
