Driver, 26, arrested in hit-run death
A Prairieville woman was arrested Sunday night, accused in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian on La. 73, according to a release from Louisiana State Police Troop A.
Nikki R. Estilette, 26, was driving a 1997 Chevy Camaro south on La. 73 about 10 p.m. Sunday when she allegedly drifted onto the shoulder, striking Joan Scott, 38, of Geismar.
Acadian Ambulance transported Scott to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales and then to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
According to the news release, Estilette continued driving south on La. 73 until Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies located her in the Walgreens parking lot on the corner of La. 73 and La. 74, where she was arrested.
State Troopers booked her into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, DWI, hit-and-run and improper lane use.
She was being held in lieu of a $125,920 bond, State Police said.
