Pierre Part man, 52, guilty on sex counts
NAPOLEONVILLE — A 12-person jury took less than three hours Thursday to convict a 52-year-old Pierre Part man on six counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
Kim Bernuchaux faces up to 75 years in prison on three of the charges because they involve children younger than 13 years old, according to a news release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
On each of the remaining three counts, Bernuchaux faces a $5,000 fine and up to seven years in prison.
He also will be required to register as a sex offender, the statement says.
An Assumption Parish grand jury indicted Bernuchaux on charges stemming from an Aug. 20, 2007, arrest in which he was accused of improperly touching three children, according to the news release.
Additional charges were filed when nine other victims came forward after he was booked into the parish jail, the release says.
Bernuchaux is being held in jail pending the results of a pre-sentence investigation ordered by state District Judge Thomas Kliebert.
