Baby's body found in Allen Parish shed
Allen Parish authorities are investigating the discovery of the body of a near full-term baby allegedly left in a storage shed for four days by a local zydeco musician.
Peggy Kennedy, chief detective with the Allen Parish Sheriff's Department, said today that Mary Rosie Ledet has not been arrested -- only questioned -- about an alleged miscarriage July 1 in Iota, which is in Acadia Parish.
Ledet is accused of wrapping the body of the near full-term baby in a blanket, Kennedy said, and placing it in a shed on the property of a male acquaintance in a rural area of Allen Parish.
After the alleged incident, Ledet is believed to have gone on tour outside Louisiana and returned to the state either Saturday or Sunday, Kennedy said.
When Ledet returned from the tour, she allegedly told her male acquaintance, who has not been identified, about the incident, Kennedy said. The male aquaintance called 9-1-1 on July 5, Kennedy said.
An ambulance took Ledet to a hospital in Jennings, Kennedy said. Law enforcement authorities also responded to the 9-1-1 call and after further investigation, located the body of a near full-term baby in the storage shed in Allen Parish, she said.
Authorities are awaiting autopsy results, which could take up to six weeks, Kennedy said. That will determine how the investigation proceeds, she said.
Acadia Parish authorities are assisting in the investigation because the alleged miscarriage occurred in their jurisdiction, Kennedy said.
