A 38-year-old man who with another man allegedly stormed into a house at 2 a.m. Wednesday in an armed robbery attempt was shot and killed by an 18-year-old man in the house, police spokesman Sgt. Don Kelly said in a news release.

The 18-year-old resident was critically injured in the shootout, Kelly said.

The 38-year-old, whose name was not released pending notification of family, and the unidentified accomplice knocked on the door of 3765 Alliquippa St. around 2 a.m., Kelly said.

When the 18-year-old opened the door, the two armed men pushed their way inside and tried to rob him, Kelly said. The 18-year-old got to his gun and began shooting.

The 38-year-old died at the scene after being struck by a bullet, Kelly said.

The 18-year-old resident was also hit, but ran out of the house, flagged down a car and was driven to a hospital.

He was still hospitalized Wednesday afternoon with life-threatening wounds, Kelly said.

The second assailant fled the scene and police do not know whether he was shot.

Investigators believe the fatal shooting was a justifiable homicide, Kelly said

No arrests have been made in the incident.
