This may have been a hot summer so far, but don’t use the heat as a reason to skip the final two summer concerts in the Old Denham Springs City Hall concert series.

The concerts will be held inside in the air-conditioned historic courthouse.

The next concert features gospel singer Kathy C.O. performing at 3 p.m.
Sunday.

The free concert will be held on the second floor of the Old Denham Springs City Courthouse, located on Mattie Street in the heart of the city’s Antique District.

Walker turns 100
Incorporated on July 9, 1909, the town of Walker will mark its 100th birthday in a three-day celebration starting Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. parade through town.

On Friday, festivities open at 10 a.m. at Walker High School. Live entertainment begins in the afternoon and ends at 10 p.m.

Saturday’s activities begin with a craft show that starts at 8 a.m. The day ends with a  30-minute fireworks display at about 9:30 p.m.

Selling meals for seniors
Buy a meal to fund meals for seniors. Jambalaya lunches will be sold from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday for the Livingston Parish Council on Aging’s meal site.

The plate of jambalaya, green beans, dessert and bread will be sold for $5 at Sacred Heart Mission Church, 29589 S. Poplar St., Livingston.

Springfield book signing
Springfield writer and reference librarian W.B. Scallions will be signing books at the Albany-
Springfield branch of the Livingston Parish Library where he works from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Scallions’ book, “Dying on the Streets in New Orleans,” is his first poetry collection published by Through the Screen Door Publishing in Hammond.
