More suits filed against developer
Perkins Rowe developer Tommy Spinosa and his construction firm owe more than $71,000 to three companies that provided services during the building of the mixed-use development, a pair of new lawsuits allege.
Several dozen lawsuits have been filed against Perkins Rowe Associates LLC, Spinosa and his Echelon Construction Services LLC, seeking more than $30 million.
The latest in an ever-growing list of lawsuits were filed Monday in state district court in Baton Rouge by C & A On Site Storage LLC and Workbox LLC, and filed Friday by Jackson Supply Co.
The C & A/Workbox suit claims Perkins Rowe Associates, Echelon and Perkins Rowe Block A Condominiums LLC owe them a combined $56,000 for portable toilets and miscellaneous construction and waste disposal services and containers.
The Jackson Supply suit contends Perkins Rowe Associates II LLC and Echelon owe the company more than $15,000.
Jackson Supply is a distributor and manufacturer of air-conditioning equipment and related materials.
“All of the materials provided by Jackson Supply Co. were of high quality and Jackson Supply Co. complied with all its contractual and legal requirements in regard to the sale and the materials,’’ the suit says.
In court records in some of the other suits, Spinosa’s attorneys have countered that subcontractors either failed to live up to the terms of their contracts or provided defective workmanship.
Spinosa has not commented on any of the suits.
The C & A/Workbox suit has been assigned to state District Judge Kay Bates. The Jackson Supply suit was allotted to District Judge William Morvant.
Perkins Rowe opened in fall 2007 at Bluebonnet Boulevard and Perkins Road.
The Louisiana Senate last week voted to kill a bill that would have allowed the use of local and state sales taxes to help finance a Hilton hotel at Perkins Rowe on Bluebonnet.
