DSS revokes license of Wanda's Kid World
The state Department of Social Services this afternoon revoked the license of Wanda’s Kids World, the day-care center where a 3-year-old girl died Wednesday after she was left for six hours in a van parked outside the day-care center.
The owner and director of Wanda’s Kids World, Wanda Connor, has 15 days to file an appeal to DSS to regain the license, DSS spokesman Trey Williams said.
Damilyn McElveen was found dead just before 3 p.m. inside the day-care center’s van, police said Wednesday.
An autopsy completed this afternoon concludes that Damilyn died of hyperthermia, the overheating of the body, said Don Moreau, chief of operations for the East Paton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office.
Damilyn was picked up and taken to the day-care center Wednesday morning, but staff reportedly left her inside the vehicle for almost six hours.
No one has been criminally charged in the incident.
