Tax exemptions and credits still alive
A handful of tax exemptions and tax credits were hitchhiked onto other bills Wednesday on the House floor the day before today’s session’s end.
Senate Bill 91 by state Sen. Nick Gautreaux, D-Meaux, to provide transferable tax credits for corporations that use alternate energy sources like wind and hydropower ended up with three hitchhikers.
First Rep. Hunter Greene, R-Baton Rouge, first amended on two of his bills to remove the Jan. 1 termination dates on the state’s digital interactive media producer tax credit and on the angel investor tax credit program.
Then Rep. Joe Harrison, R-Napoleonville, tacked on his legislation to remove the termination date for the brown fields investor tax credit program to revitalize blighted areas.
Hitchhikers are common ways late in legislative sessions to bring back to life otherwise dead bills.
The heavily amended SB91 next goes back to the Senate for final approval if the Senate concurs with the amendments.
